BS15000

ISO 20000 is the international standard for IT Service management.

It is based upon BS15000, which was originally published by BSI in 2000. However, BS15000 itself (and indeed 20000) is part of a bigger picture, in that it aligns with ITIL, the IT Infrasture Library. This relationship is often illustrated via a diagram such as the one below:

ISO20000 (formerly) BS 15000 is the world's first standard for IT service management. The standard specifies a set of inter-related management processes, and is based heavily upon the ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) framework.

ISO20000 (formerly) BS15000 consists of eight sections: Scope, Normative Reference, Definitions, General, Service Design and Management, Relationship Processes, Resolution Processes and Control Processes.

These sections form the basis for the assessment of a managed IT service.

The standard may be used for a variety of purposes, including for outsource tenders, ensuring consistency by all service providers benchmarking and as the basis for formal certification.
